STEP INTO MY STUDIO

The majority of my time is spent in my studio. Either I'm working on a design project for a client or a creative project for myself. I crafted my studio to be a creative space where I'm constantly surrounded by works of art in order to draw inspiration when necessary.

I love being in a space that is ingrained with creative work. I surround myself with artwork by myself and a variety of other artists.

MY DESIGN EXPERIENCE

As a kid I began helping out in my family's business. This is where I began to develop my design skills. My dad had recently launched his eCommerce art business on Etsy. He had me begin learning Photoshop by designing various art prints by using his old art. Over time I became fluent in Photoshop and started coming up with my own design projects for us to sell.

I still work on my family's eCommerce business:

Dan Morris Art. Managing all of our custom print orders and shipping them out every day.

Along with working with my family I do freelance designing for companies who need any design work.

MY TIME AT ATC

During my sophomore and junior year of highschool I was dual enrolled at ATC (The Advanced Technology Center.) So for three hours, five days a week, I was in my Digital Design class. I joined the class with a minimal grasp of Photoshop and other design programs.

Over those two years is when I honed my design and marketing skills. It was a blessing to walk into that classroom every day and have the opportunity to be creative along with 19 other creative students. The spontaneity of ideas that were generated with 21 different creative minds in the same room were incredible.

Our teacher had been a student of the class when he was in highschool and had been teaching the class for close to 20 years. Mr. Troxell lead us through learning photography to branding to package design to animation; and always emphasized how all of the topics were interlaced through creativity.

During my two years there I competed in our SkillsUSA District and State competitions for Advertising and Design. My first year I became the only first year to ever place at the District level and move on to compete at the State level for Virginia. Although I did not place at the state level that year it helped me prepare for the next year where I would place first in the District and State level and move on to compete at Nationals. While I did not place at the National competition I did learn a lot and what I could improve in my skill set.
